Há alguns dias recebi a triste notícia que o Haras Vanguarda fechava suas portas.

A few days ago I learned that Haras Vanguarda has closed their doors.

Não poderia deixar de registrar a minha admiração pelo maravilhoso trabalho que a família Diniz realizou desde que iniciou a sua criação. Antes mesmo do sucesso do Ryad el Jamaal, que ano passado tornou-se o reprodutor líder em filhos premiados em nacionais brasileiras, me lembro das importações que a família Diniz fez, trazendo diferentes linhagens e estabelecendo criações paralelas de animais poloneses, espanhóis e russos. Dentro deste esforço cito alguns destes cavalos especiais que foram trazidos: Pesennik ( Russia ), Gokart ( Suécia ), Jartum ( Espanha ) , Wawel   ( EUA ) dentre tantos outros. Sem contar inúmeras éguas que marcaram história em competições e na reprodução, tais como Plaza, Kaborreta, Poshlina, Gitara, Osiri, Heroica,  Warsowia, Banasha, Striking Rhapsody,  Piaget,  MS Baqueta, Breeze e tantas, tantas outras.

I could not refrain from expressing my admiration for the amazing work done by the Diniz Family  with their breeding program . Even before the success of Ryad el Jamaal, who as of last year became the leading sire of halter winners in Brazil,  I remember the imports done by the Diniz Family, bringing in bloodlines from different countries thus establishing parallel breeding programs of polish, Spanish and Russian horses. Within their effort, some of the special horses that were brougth in were : Pesennik ( Russia ), Gokart ( Sweden ), Jartum ( Spain ) Wawel  ( USA ), among so many others. Not to mention many mares that made history with their records in the show ring and in the breeding barn, such as Plaza, Kaborreta, Poshlina, Gitara, Osiri, Heroica, Warsowia, Banasha, Striking Rhapsody, Piaget, MS Baqueta, Breeze among many, many others.

Tenho que homenagear também o grande campeão americano AAF Kaset e suas filhas Barbara e Halima Van Kaset e finalmente o grande Ryad el Jamaal ( parabéns  também à Lenita Perroy por cria-lo e aos irmãos Rocco, seus antigos proprietários) . A lista de filhos campeões de Ryad é muito grande, mas aqui vão alguns que me vêm à memória : Rashid Van Ryad, Star Van Ryad, Epico NVC, Lark RMC, Dora Van Ryad, Zanella Van Ryad, Van el Rose, Chammyra Van Ryad, Ryadyka HBV, Radisha Van Ryad, Bela Van Ryad, Salma Van Ryad, Sadeek Van Ryad, Belissima el Ryad, Dasha Van Ryad , Maddox Van Ryad e Rywanna.  

I also have to pay tribute to the great US National Champion AAF Kaset and their daughters Barbara and Halima Van Kaset, and finally to the great Ryad el Jamaal ( also congratulations to his breeder Lenita Perroy  and to his previous owners , the brothers Rocco).  The list of champion offspring sired by Ryad is too vast, but here are some of his sons and daughters that cross my memory now: Rashid Van Ryad, Star Van Ryad, Epico NVC, Lark RMC, Dora Van Ryad,  Zanella Van Ryad, Van el Rose, Chammyra Van Ryad, Ryadyka HBV, Radisha Van Ryad, Bellla Van Ryad, Salma Van Ryad, Sadeek Van Ryad, Belissima el Ryad, Dasha Van Ryad, Maddox Van Ryad e Rywanna.

Começo 2014  desejando um excelente ano a todos e contando um pouco da  minha visita aos haras acima mencionados, há alguns dias.  Com exceção do Meia Lua, o qual eu visito há mais de 25 anos sempre que eu posso, foi a primeira vez que eu tive a oportunidade de conhecer o Haras Aratinga, Haras Clio e o Haras das Cascatas.

I start 2014 wishing you all an excellent year and telling you a little bit about my visit to the above mentioned farms, some days ago. Except for Haras Meia Lua, a place that I have been visiting regularly for over 25 years, it was the first time that I had the opportunity  to visit Haras Aratinga, Haras Clio and Haras das Cascatas.

Janeiro é uma época especial pois é quando podemos conhecer a nova safra dos haras, já que muitos nascimentos ocorrem.  E de fato foi isso que vi no Meia Lua. Os primeiros produtos de Eman el Ludjin e El Jahez. Como era de se esperar, os filhos de ambos tem muito tipo e beleza. No haras Aratinga pude conhecer alguns potrinhos novos muito especiais com destaque a uma potra filha de Shael Dream Desert cuja foto aparece nesse artigo. O Haras Clio, que é o líder em exportações de cavalos árabes brasileiros, estava com a maioria de suas éguas em centrais coletando embriões. Ainda assim, vi uma linda filha de Gris el jamaal lá, que estava para parir do belo filho de Justice, e cria deles, Vettel. No Haras das Cascatas vi três potrinhos muito bonitos, todos descendentes de Marwan por vias distintas, filhos de El Shakhyr,  Sirajj  UB e  OFW Magic Wan.

January is a special time of the year, it's when the new foal crops arrive. And that's what I saw at Haras Meia Lua. The first offspring of the stallions Eman el Ludjin and El Jahez. As it would be expected, both stallions are producing a lot of type and beauty. At Haras Aratinga I saw some very nice foals, specially a beautiful daughter of Shael Dream Desert that is pictured above. Haras Clio is the top exporter of arabian horses in Brazil. Most of their mares were collecting embryos elsewhere, but still I was able to see a beautiful Gris el Jamaal daughter who was about to foal to Clio's upcoming homebred WH Justice colt, the handsome Vettel. At Haras das Cascatas I saw three beautiful babies, all descending from Marwan in different ways, by El Shakhyr, Sirajj UB and OFW Magic Wan. 

Vale mencionar ainda alguns animais inesquecíveis e seus descendentes que vi na minhas visitas. No Haras Meia Lua além dos únicos Ali Jamaal ( com 32 anos !) e Ludjin el Jamaal, e dos potrinhos novos, revi também o belo Eman el Ludjin, o El Jahez, as lindas matrizes e em especial uma potrinha nova que me deixou muito feliz. Trata-se da última filha da Eloise el Jamaal ( com o El  Jahez ). Uma linda potrinha fruto do sucesso em coletar esse último embrião de uma das maiores éguas já nascidas no Brasil. No haras Aratinga ( obrigado Vico Rocco por me levar até lá !! ) pude conhecer pessoalmente o CG Balih el Jamaal que é realmente lindo, bem como lindas filhas do Khidar ( especialmente duas irmãs inteiras ), bem como descendentes de algumas éguas lendárias como NV Gypsy Wind, Keepsake V, Robin K, MFA Exoticaa etc... No haras das Cascatas consegui conhecer a maravilhosa filha da An Gazala , Honeymoon FHP e suas filhas e netas. Ela é ainda mais bonita pessoalmente. Prá quem não sabe, ela é a mãe da atual campeã nacional americana Honeys Delight RB.

Also worth mentioning are some extraordinary horses that I saw in my visit, and their descendants too. At Haras Meia Lua, besides the unique Ali Jamaal ( at 32 years of age!) , his unique son Ludjin el Jamaal  and the beautiful new foals, I had the chance to revisit the beautiful Eman el Ludjin and El Jahez. I also walked on  the great broodmare band pasture and saw a very special filly foal , the last daughter of Eloise el Jamaal, by El Jahez WH, born after  the successful collection of  this last embryo from one of Brazil's finest mares. At Haras Aratinga ( and thank you Vico Rocco for accompanying me in the visit !) I was able to see the beautiful CG Balih el Jamaal in person,  some fine daughters of Khidar ( in special two full sisters), as well as descendants of some legendary mares such as NV Gypsy Wind, Keepsake V, Robin K, MFA Exoticaa etc... At Haras das Cascatas I finally met the beautiful daughter of An Gazala , Honeymoon FHP. She is even prettier in person ! For those who don't know, she is the mother of the reigning US National Champion mare Honeys Delight RB.

ALADDIN & BRASIL

Aladdin ( Nureddin X Lalage )

 Estava lendo uma revista antiga de 1986 hoje e me deparei com fotos de três filhos de Aladdin. Desses, dois haviam sido importados para o Brasil.  Ao refletir um pouco mais, me dei conta que a maioria dos melhores filhos do Aladdin vieram de fato parar em terras brasileiras.

Today while I was reading an 1986 issue of the AHW I bumped into  3 pictures of Aladdin sons. Two out of those three have been imported to Brazil. After some thought I realized that most  of Aladdin’s finest sons ended up, indeed, in Brazilian soil.

Aladdin, campeão nacional sueco e americano e garanhão chefe da Lasma,  era principalmente um produtor de garanhões . Quatro de seus filhos foram campeões nacionais americanos : AAF Kaset ( vencedor da Triple Crown ), Exceladddin, Almaden e Strike. Com exceção deste último, todos os outros vieram para o Brasil.

The US and Swedish national champion stallion and Lasma’s chief sire, Aladdin was an amazing stallion’s  sire. Four of his sons became US National Champion Stallions : AAF Kaset ( Triple Crown Winner ), Exceladdin, Almaden and Strike . Of those four, the first three were imported to Brazil.

Além desses quatro,  outros consagrados filhos de Aladdin também foram incorporados  a criatórios de renome no Brasil. Entre eles está : Aladdin Echo ( pai de Echo Magnificoo ) , Armagnac, Aladdin I e Celaddin . E Além deles ainda : Aladd ( pai de AF Don Giovani ) , Aladdin Torch , NV Sure Fire e Laddin BA todos premiados e  pais de inúmeros campeões,  e Persus Rach que foi reservado campeão nacional brasileiro.

But there were many other great producing Aladdin sons that were added to famous brazilian farms. Among them we have : Aladdin Echo ( sire of Echo Magnificoo) Armagnac, Aladdin I and Celaddin. Moreover we have : Aladd ( the sire of AF Don Giovanni) , Aladdin Torch, NV Sure Fire and Laddin BA, all accomplished show horses with many winning offspring.

Seguindo essa tradição, os netos de Aladdin também marcaram história como grandes garanhões no Brasil. AAF Kadet, neto de Aladdin foi campeão futurity americano e campeão nacional brasileiro. Outro neto, World Series, filho de Strike, foi reservado campeão futurity americano e reservado campeão nacional brasileiro, é pai do campeão nacional Power World JQ, que por sua vez é pai de HK Keak Power, campeão nacional potro e um dos garanhões de maior projeção da atualidade, pai de diversos campeões, inclusive na última nacional brasileira, foi pai da campeã junior nacional e da reservada, que num fato inédito são irmãs inteiras ( filhas de RA Nefertiti ). Cajun Prince HCF foi invicto nas pistas e foi o primeiro ( e último ) potro de dois anos a sagrar-se  grande campeão nacional brasileiro. Além destes temos ainda vários outros  netos campeões de destaque : RSC Cahrif ( filho de Celaddin ), Pavel Rach e Vivaldi Rach ( filhos de Armagnac ) entre tantos outros.

In regards of notable grandsons of Aladdin in Brazil, some are really worth mentioning : AAF Kadet ( by AAF Kaset ) was US National Champion Futurity stallion and Brazilian National Champion stallion, the amazing *Cajun Prince HCF ( by Almaden )  undefeated in Brazil and National champion stallion as a two year old ( the one and only ever ),  RSC Cahrif ( by Celaddin ) was a Brazilian National Champion colt and sired many champion offspring, Pavel Rach Brazilian National Champion colt and Vivaldi Rach , exported to England ( both by Armagnac ) , and last by not least the only representative sire from the  Strike branch, the great *World Series, US Reserve Futurity National Champion and Brazilian Reserve National Champion Stallion, himself responsible of perpetuating the Aladdin sire line through his National Champion son and grandson, Power World JQ and HK Keav Power respectively. Keav Power has been siring national Champion offspring consistently. At this year’s National Show he distinguished himself after siring both the junior Champion filly and reserve who amazingly were out of the same mare ( the champion Marwan daughter RA Nefertiti). He also sired the reserve adult junior Champion filly HK Jojo RLC  and the Reserve Champion Young mare Pure Seduction VCM.

E para terminar vale mencionar um bisneto de Aladdin que passou pelo Brasil onde foi campeão nacional antes de ir para a Argentina e depois de sagrar-se campeão nacional americano.  Estou falando de Legacy of Fame ( que é neto de Alada Baskin), que deixou muitos campeões aqui no Brasil . Voltaire Rach, o campeão nacional brasileiro  Form Carillon e o reservado campeão nacional brasileiro Nuzyr HCF também são bisnetos que não poderiam deixar de ser mencionados.

                                                                        And to conclude this article I will mention the great grandsons.  One in particular is Legacy of Fame  ( a grandson of Alada Baskin ), who made a stop in Brazil where he bred some mares and became National Champion Stallion ( repeating his US tiltle) before continuing his journey to Argentina. Other great grandsons that needs to be remembered are Voltaire Rach ( by Pavel Rach ), dual Brazilian reserve Champion stallion Nuzyr HCF ( by AF Don Giovanni ) and National Champion stallion Form Carillon ( by Laddin BA ).

Como se vê, apesar de ter nascido na Suécia e se firmado nos Estados Unidos, foi no Brasil que a linhagem paterna de Aladdin e de seu fundador Kuhailan Haifi encontraram solo fértil para se expandir até hoje.

Though Sweden was his homeland, and the USA was the country of his crowning, it is in Brazil that the founding sire line of Kuhailan Haifi through Aladdin and his descendants is finding a fertile ground to keep expanding to our days.

Gostaria de escrever hoje sobre uma égua que eu admiro muito, a Evening Star TGS. Sempre achei que ela ainda seria reconhecida como uma das grandes matrizes do Brasil. Até pouco tempo ela era apenas mais uma égua bonita com um pedigree excelente. Seu pai e sua mãe foram ambos campeões nacionais brasileiros. Contudo, depois da recente Nacional, sua qualidade como matriz foi reconhecida. Duas de suas  3 filhas nascidas em 2011, ambas por RFI Maktub, sagraram-se campeã potranca nacional jovem ( Lumiar Ethna ) e campeã potranca unânime na copa do Brasil ( Lumiar Elektra ). A terceira irmã, é filha de Ryad el Jamaal,  chama-se Lumiar Evitha e também é belíssima. Tive a sorte de trazê-la para o plantel do Haras Resgate.
Acredito que as boas linhas maternas se perpetuam. Nesse caso, voltando no tempo vemos uma sucessão de matrizes excepcionais que se sucedem : Balalajka ( mãe de Bask e Bandola ) gerou Bachantka ( avó de Barbary através de Balalinka e avó de Kaiyoum através de Bayanka ) que gerou Baychatka ( que produziu Moska , égua pilar da Varian Arabians mãe Spinning Song que produziu  Sweet Inspiration V e Sweet Illusion V ) que gerou Pavane V ( mãe do garanhão Hucks Premier V da Varian) que gerou a campeã Nacional Promise V que finalmente gerou Broken Promises PGA que foi reservada campeã futurity americana e Evening Star TGS, que produziu estas belas potrancas.
Algumas linhagens boas infelizmente desaparecem, mas por sorte outras se perpetuam. Parabéns ao meu amigo Antonio Carlos do Haras Lumiar por preservar a Evening Star TGS  e ter criado as suas lindas filhas. No Haras Lumiar, além de Lumiar Elektra, encontra-se outra linda filha de Evening Star TGS , Lumiar Stella ( por Giorgio Carol ).

Evening Star TGS ( Lumiar Amadeus X Promise V by  Huckleberry Bey )

Today I would like to write about a mare that truly admire, her name is Evening Star TGS. I always believed that someday she would be recognized as one of the great mares alive in Brazil. Until recently Evening Star was just another pretty mare with a great pedigree. But that changed, after our last national Show where two of her 2011 daughters, both by RFI Maktub, were named champion fillies, the black Lumiar Ethna at the open National Show and Lumiar Elektra at the Brazil’s Cup. The third daughter of Evening born in 2011 is a beautiful grey filly by Ryad el Jamaal. Her name is Lumiar Evitha and thankfully she is now part of our herd. 

I firmly believe that exceptional dam lines are able to perpetuate themselves ( given the fate factor and other externalities ).  In this case, if we come back in time we can verify that  Evening’s tail female line case is such a testimony  :  Balalajka ( the mother of Bask and Bandola ) produced Bachantka ( the grandmother of Barbary through Balalinka and Kaiyoum through Bayanka) who in turn produced Baychatka ( mother of Moska a foundation mare of Varian Arabians mother of Spinning Song mother of National Reserve Champion Sweet Inspiration V and Sweet Illusion V) who in turn produced Pavane V ( mother of Varian Arabians stallion Hucks Premier V ) who in turn produced the National Champion Promise V  who is the mother of US National reserve Champion Broken Promises PGA and Evening Star TGS, the mother of these beautiful fillies.  Congratulations to my friend Antonio Carlos Rego of Haras Lumiar  for owning Evening Star TGS and for breeding her beautiful daughters. He still owns Lumiar Elektra and her older sister Lumiar Stella ( by Giorgio Carol ).

Haras Argentinos / Horse Farms in Argentina

Em início de Novembro tive a sorte de visitar três haras na Argentina, depois de assistir a Copa Criadores em Buenos Aires, julgada pelo meu amigo Johnny Downing . Os dois primeiros pela primeira vez , Mayed e Cuatro Estrellas e o terceiro, Los Estribos, "re-visitando".

O haras Mayed é lindíssimo, a família Santibañes convidou os criadores para um almoço e nos apresentou algumas lindas filhas de Magnum Psyche, bem como alguns filhos de Faraa al Shaqab ( Marwan al Shaqab X GW Natorious Star ), o qual esteve arrendado para eles por algum tempo. Dois filhos de Faraa foram campeões junior macho e fêmea na Copa criadores. No final o grande Magnum Psyche foi apresentado ( já está com 18 anos !! O tempo voa...).

O Haras Los Estribos dedica-se hoje exclusivamente ao enduro. Contudo ainda conta com progênie daquelas grandes éguas que compraram há alguns anos no Brasil tais como Pravda, Pacific Fleet, A Special Feature e muitas outras.

No Haras Cuatro Estrellas revi o belo AB Magnum e várias de suas lindas filhas. Conheci também as matrizes mais antigas, bem como algumas filhas de ZT Marwteyn e de JFN Mameluke. E para terminar  o garanhão arrendado do Las Rosas Auteur, que acho que irá cruzar muito bem com as filhas do AB Magnum .

This early November I had the chance to visit 3 horse farms in Argentina, after attending to the Breeders Cup in Buenos Aires, that was judged by my friend Johnny Downing. It was the first time I visited Haras Mayed and Haras Cuatro Estrellas, though I had been previously at Haras Los Estribos.

Haras Mayed is beautiful, we had a great lunch party hosted by Joaquin and Fernando de Santibañes and watched a great horse presentation that included the offspring of the leased stallion Faraa Al Shaqab by Marwan al Shaqab (he was already gone when I was there ), the beautiful daughters of Magnum Psyche and as a great finale, they brought Magnum Pysche himself, amazing on top of his 18 years !!

Though Haras Los Estribos has focused only on endurance horses lately, I saw the offspring of some of its great old mares, such as Pacific Fleet, Pravda DSA , A Special Feature etc...

At Haras Cuatro Estrellas I saw the beautiful AB Magnum once more and several of his excellent daughters. I also saw some of the older broodmares as well as daughters of ZT Marwteyn and JFN Mameluke. And last but not least I saw the beautiful bay stallion Auteur who was leased from Las Rosas to breed theAB Magnum daughters, and I think that will be a good cross !

Video Ventura Farms

Encontrei esse video hoje no youtube sobre a Ventura Farms, um dos Haras mais bonitos que eu já vi. Nele aparecem animais históricos como Bandos, Penincylina , bem como as raras filhas do Comet, Negatiw e Bask. Uma aula sobre os cavalos poloneses.

I just found this video on youtube about Ventura Farms, one of the most beautiful farms I have ever seen. The video features some historical animals such as Bandos, Penincylina, as well as some rare daughtes of Comet, Negatiw and Bask. A true course on polish arabian horses.

Simeon Shifran e a visita ao Simeon Stud

Simeon Shifran ( Asfour X Simeon Shavit [ Anaza Bay Shahh X Simeon Safanad ])

Durante estas semanas, tive a oportunidade de viajar para a Austrália e lá tive a sorte de visitar os criatórios mais famosos deles, o Mulawa e o Simeon Stud.
O segundo é um dos haras mais importantes do mundo na criação de animais puros egípcios tendo a sua dona, a Marion Richmond, criado o Simeon Sadik e o Simeon Shai. Além disso ela era dona do famoso Asfour, irmão materno do Jamill.
Nessa minha visita tive a chance de ver com meus próprios olhos algumas das crias do Asfour e de outros garanhões dela e fiquei bem impressionado com algumas, sobretudo com o filho do Asfour que é o substituto dele no Haras, o Simeon Shifran. Ele tem uma cabeça incrível e como bom egípcio, tenho certeza que vai ficar cada vez mais bonito com o tempo.
Das famílias maternas, a que a Marion Richmond guarda com mais carinho é a da Simeon Safanad, filha da égua fundadora do haras dela, 27 Ibn Galal V ,além de ser mãe do Simeon Sadik e do Simeon Shai e avó do Simeon Shifran. Ela tem razão de gostar dessa família !!
